Blog: Lazy Sunday

It’s been not raining off late but its pouring. There is now some relief from blistering and wearing summers. Someone said “Jab Neeli Chhatri wala de ta hai to chuppad phad kar de ta hai.” So what kinds of things one can do in a rain. Is there a little child in you who loves to go out in the rain just to get wet? You are of my types then. The bhajiyas never tasted that crisp if there were no rains around. For one try cooking up some bhajiyas favourite among those our plain one or stuffed with dal, potato (these bhajiya thing goes with anything from chai to a chilled beer) or onion bhajiyas. Try making some very spicy if u like it or sweet chutney to be served along with it. Pakodas are an equally good choice as well.
That was for breakfast. But do try getting up before sunrise if u can beat the hangovers of the mundane weekdays. The scenes of rain are a sense of heaven. Photography is a part of your interest? Even if it not pick up that camera and take some pictures. The snaps come out really really well. Go for a long drive. The drive to places like Khandala and the Ghats will surely make your day. (But be sure its not choc-o-block). The places like beaches, river banks or lake shore also can be counted. If u are lucky enough u might get to see a rainbow too.
Now coming back to food (A road to man’s heart is of course through his stomach). The veggies prepare some spicy dishes along with fresh salads. The non-veggies well order that roasted chicken or a fried fish before you finish reading this article. The people who prefer something continental or prefer fast foods try some yummy extra cheese pizza.
Writer or a shayar or singer? Get a paper and pencil draw the window scene or paint the clouds, write an essay or a poem or a shayari. Get your vocals right hum an old tune (my favourite woul be “Yeh raat bheegi bheegi yeh mast fizayen by Mana De’). For pro’s only write a love letter!!People who prefer reading novels just take an easy chair put your feet up. I would suggest try reading some old novels (reading Da’Vinci’s code is passé now). I have laid my hands over “The Insider” (any one of u already read it?), “The World is Flat” lays some flat in some pile of books….Kids get the football nice and ready. Football and rains!! Well rains and any sport football, cricket, volleyball, cycling or dishum dishum in the puddle- its always fun. You might get some knees and elbows peeled but then there is Mom and Dettol!!
For couch potatoes get some favourite DVD’s or CD’s and watch out some movies. Then tune in for a “F-1” or a cricket match and pray its not raining where action is suppose to take place. The TV is over? Read some news paper lots of gossip and scoops in any Sunday newspaper of choice. Don’t read the horoscope for the day; keep it for Monday. Then there additionals these days are be-aware-don’t-catch-A.I.D.S. pamphlet.
Shopping ? Ladies drag your beaus along and get some “hut-ke” raincoats ‘sheeters or umbrellas. Lots of roadside “designers” choices to choose from some are funny some are worth buying. No point in saying do bargain. Do buy some good water proof footwear. Rains are though on footwear.
As lazy as a daisy? Try finding that junked Radio set. I am sure it will work they never get out of shape. Got a deck try tuning in into a station even if there is no private radio channels. The programs they feature along with the songs are good.Business buff try catching up on some analysis (CNBC my personal favourite). Quizzing any one? Then ESPN school quiz kids are really good man or Master Mind India will be real teasers. Siddharth Basu is perhaps the best in the business but now fast catching his age. I am his huge fan and would love to take chair in front of him someday I hope.
The TV channels feature some good movies. Try watching that if it is raining outside and u can’t make it to your local CD renting shop.Got some space in the balcony? Then buy a seedling of flowering plant. Catch up on old friends, relatives or even on next door neighbours. The end will be a bit anticlimax for those who personally know me and read what I write. Catch some sleep man; the siesta will keep u geared for the next gruelling weekday!!
