About: The Saga of Australian Open 2006.

The first Grand Slam of 2006 is coming to a tantalizing end. It was dubbed to be a Grand Slam of Asia-Pacific. It is thankfully turning out to be so. This being courtesy players from China and India doing exceedingly well in doubles. Chinese women pip the top seeds to secure a first win at Grand Slam by a Chinese. Yan Zi and Zheng Jie clinched China's first ever Grand Slam title by winning the Australian Open women's doubles final in a spectacular come-from-behind victory Then not too far behind are Hesh-Lea (Mahesh Bhupati and Leander Paes) although not together they did well to enter final in double arena. Leander is with Martin Damm and Mahesh has team up with Martina Hingis in the perusing another Grand Slam.
Mahesh Bhupati a mixed doubles specialist. I think he really did well for himself and off course for India too, winning many Grand Slams. I hope both win in their respective category of watches. It will be good if they do it. How much media coverage will they get? This question needs another blog post. This is the only open which he has not won as of yet. He has tasted success at all other Grand Slam barring the Australian.
BEST OF LUCK MAHESH AND LEANDER.
There is a surprise finalist called Marcos Baghdatis. I have not heard of him much so …… While is write this post the semi-final match between Keifer and Federer is under way. Let’s hope the best player wins and goes through to play the finals.
The ladies final match is an interesting one. It is between Justin Henin-Hardenne and Amelie Mauresmo. Justin Henin Hardenne came through to final sinking Maria Sharapova on her way. It was a tough three-setter match. She came back from behind after dropping the first set and trampled Sharapova in the third set to book a ticket for finals in Rod Laver Arena. Amelie Mauresmo on the other hand had a two and half set against Kim Clijsters who retired due to an injury.
