Cricket: Mohali, Second Test, Day One

England: 164-4
Pathan: 54-2

When things happen unexpectedly they often, give no joy. The rains spoil sport in Mohali. I am surprised to see rains in beginning of the torrid Indian summer. The rain delayed the test by over an hour. The start was interesting in many ways.
I would have like to see Kaif retained. He has a better technique for tests then Yuvraj. Yuvraj seems to have few problems with short pitch delivery. Kaif will hopefully get chances in the test arena. Laxman's dropping out was a bit of surprise. Harbhajan has to justify his selection to two batsmen who left out. Piyush Chawla got a look in. He just bowled a single spell of five overs. The first ten over were good then Pathan hammered two blows to take out Strauss and Cook. Strauss chased a really wide delivery and getting out after having a start. Cook was claimed leg before wicket by Pathan by a ball, which seemed to e coming in late.
Then there a partnership, which did a bit of, repaired some of the dents. Kumble cleaned up Ian Bell who looks very ill equipped to handle spin. Ian Bell needs to tighten up and try to hold onto the fort. He was airy-fairy and some how managed to get a decent start. I fear that at some point in this series, Ian Bell's dismissal may trigger the famous English batting collapse. I am actually looking forward to it. Pietersen is such an exciting batsman to watch. His flamboyance is often the key to his dismissal. He drove Munaf Patel on the up and offered Munaf Patel his first Test wicket. The bowlers looked in control on day one. Munaf Patel’s control is an awesome to watch. I hope he has a good test. Pathan looked in control. The second day will hopefully provide much more action

Dropping of Laxman did not come as a BIG surprise for me as Dravid hinted in the pre-match press conference, that he may go with 5 bowlers. Abt Kaif, I definitely feel sorry for him, as he was dropped even after a fighting knock, but he can never be compared to Yuvraj's technique. Yuvraj is far more complete and talented batsman than Kaif, in both forms of the game.

@ Sesh:Yuvraj is a one day player.I would have prefered Kaif playong. He is better than Yuvraj in test matches.
@ Punnet:Two days are over woihtou single innings being complete.I agree the match is heading for a draw.
