Cricket: India surprise Lankans.

Although the Lankan pitches are the typical sub continent ones. I feel India find difficult to beat Lanka in Lanka, primarily because one of the team members plays a big role it could be a Jasuriya with bat or ball, Jayawardene, Mendis, Vaas Sanga or that old fox Murali. The only problem is Lankans find it difficult to extract best performances consistency from the core of these players. Also Indians are coming out of a winter without much match fitness or form. There last series was against Poms, which saw Yuvraj battling out the Poms, although there were major contributions from others as well.
Meanwhile, Lankans seemed to cruise through Bangladesh and Zimbabwe in a tri series in Bangladesh ands squashed Pakistan in Pakistan. But then if Indians who have played such rigorous series in last six months, are coming out of the winter then one can feel for Pakis who haven’t had much cricket for over an year. But I still consider to Lankans to win the series 3-2 but then Indians have notched up this big one making the next matches a kind of must watch. I would like credit BCCI for flexing their billion dollars muscles, and arranging this series like pulling out a wand out of thin air. We also know Sri Lankan bored isn’t exactly cash rich.
Lankans invincibility at home, precedes their usual dismal performances abroad. I don’t think Jayasuriya will last forever; Sanga is good when it comes to abroad. Jayawardene would like to emulate his home record in an away series, but I don’t see them coming. I was hoping Vandort would come good I don’t know where he is. Dilshan amuses me, he is good but I just find him amusing. There is Murali and Mendis both freaks and perhaps feared, but I see people playing Mendis better as he settles into International cricket. Needless to say he has to continuously think of new things for the times to come.

Old bloke, old tricks.

Jayasuriya hitting a century in ODI is one of the most obvious things likely to happen in an India-Lanka tie. The only thing is, this one was an exception in the sense he hit a century alright but Lanka lost courtesy maturing Gambhir, resolute Raina and piped piper Dhoni slow developing into a very good finisher of a limited overs cricket game. The best on form is Albie Morkel. He is superb. Jayasuriya has matured with age, perhaps matured and aged wonderfully well. He is Colossal in Lankan Cricket. He struck one more century obviously he had taken liking to Venky Prasad at one point in time, now it seems to be Munaf. Ishant and Zaheer are looking good. Sanga to helped in Lankan score but then there isn’t much to follow is the captain is struggling. I think he will come good in this series and if he does, the 3-2 score in favour of Lankans seems a bright possibility. But if he continues to struggle then I think Jayawardene would be praying for 11 Jayasuriya’s and Muralis playing for him.
Dhoni being the unassuming gambler that he is, ensured enough bowing practice to his non regular bowlers ensuring that out of sorts Munaf doesn’t leak much runs and Zaheer and Ishant kept Lankan score in a realistic zone.

Poor luck Sachin.

Poor Kumar Dharmsena, the umpire was so nervous in his first game that kept lost track of basic of an LBW and gave Sachin the marching orders. It wasn’t the best of starts Indians would have thought of but then Indians moved on. Sehwag not playing didn’t matter much to Raina and Gambhir. Raina provided the spark and then Gambhir got really serious and together they shared a good century stand to provide a very good platform. Yuvraj meanwhile I imagine he would struggle against the spinners, did well to reach 23 but would have loved to finish of the game. Raina and Gambhir literally followed each other to the pavilion. Dhoni and Yuvraj steadied the ship and then Dhoni in able company of Rohit Sharma sealed the win. India shined with ball and bat, while Jayawardene may first have to dwell upon his role in a team as a batsman alone, look at the fielding coz an ordinary perforamce in the field against Bangladesh and Zimababwe may not be that costly but against India may cost a match or two, like it did today.

Blog: Carvan aur humsafar

The song is from the movie Barsaat ki Raat. The movie starred Bharat Bhushan and Madhuballa, both a tragic stories for real. The song sung by Manna Dey and Mohd Rafi, iconic singers of their time. Iconic or colossus you take a pick. Manna Dey the complete singer.

He never got his due because his voice apparently did not "fit" any of the heroes at that time, Rafi use to sing for Dilip Kumar and Dev Anand, Mukesh for Raj Kapoor. Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand, Raj Kapoor one of the famous troika of popuar Hindi cinema. Music was much part of the story and it was of some class a pedigree, perhaps it was good that our movie industry wasn't so "technically" well equipped so films relied more on talent within. But originality has never ever been our (Hindi Cinema) forte but compared to days showbiz the quality of music, lyrics and dialogues perhaps camera work is just beyond comparison to what we are forced to see today. As I have written in the earlier posts as well that the packaging of the film i.e. marketing, promotion of the film, the dresses and the make up in the movies can make very ordinary people look larger then life uber glamourous, but I don't think we have enough talent to balance the uber glamour quotient. The package industry for the films have really come up leaps and bounds but the process of discarding the main factors of making a film, the story, the dialogues (Quality of speech),music and lyrics of the songs (in case of Hindi movie) a possible reason could be the underlying fact the films are a mirror image of the society. The movies might not be an honest confession but it is definitely in step with whats going on in and around the society.

The likes of musicians, composers, lyricist, writer (script and dialogue) have all perished and long forgotten. Although there isn't much void with regards to singer, they may not be as good as the ones in 50s, 60s or even 70 but gap is not too huge but in comparisons to other it seems a very thin line.

I think perhaps we don't need talent, but then I look at people like Salman Khan, Dino Morrea, Tushar Kapoor,Aftab Shivdasani aka Paragon Chappal, the brand endorsed by him, Kanganga Ranauat Amrita Arora, some of the bahus and saas in the saas bahu serials and wonder if they introduce themselves as "actors".I mean they look glamorous I am sure then can "act", but can they emote? I think not, at least I haven't seen the proof, I don't think I ever will. by the way the list of glamorous movie stars is along while you can count actors on your finger tips.

Well that was a time lapse for you.

The song was buzzing in my years when I was coming back from college thinking of I don't remember exactly what, but the song kept playing in my mind. I don't even remember when I heard of this song, but then Qawali has it own charm. The one in Mughal-e-Azam featuring Nigar Sultana and Madhuballa is equally good.

Second Edit

I liked the feel of it and two maestros coming together. It gave such a good feel. Also the lyrics of the song pretty sway you from time to time.

O Mama its Obama.

I don't what happened, perhaps I was in a bit of hurry I had to repost this post again. Sorry for the confusion of that prevailed if any. Obama was sweared in as the 44 President of U.S.A. it was historic moment . It will we interesting to see though when history chooses to repeats. Its been nearly 44 years when racial segregation was disbanded and outlawed in the world most powerful democracy. It was more than 100 years after the Emancipation Proclaimation by the then President Abraham Lincoln. This marks a great achievement for someone to emulate. I hate the word African-American. It almost sounds so prudish and tries to paint a vivid picture in just black and white. I want to understand though why the law with regards to civil rights need to be "renewed". I wonder why? Also why democracy wasn't practice or allowed to practiced by law. I think our Indian forefathers were right when they opted Universal Adult franchisee. The only criteria being age limit and citizenship. Off course in India we can just about imagined what people would have felt when the took their kids to school and they were turned out by peope that biased.

But Obama has broken the mould so to speak. I mean Unites States of America world most powerful democracy is know truly turning to a new chapter in allowing, voting electing and supporting the proverbial non-white candidate. I think the term white is as derogatory as black. But a child who is ignorant of history will see that it is possible to stand up on God gifted values and believing that his color wont come in between her/his aspirations and efforts. He is a wonderful speaker. I first heard him live in one of the speeches he gave in Berlin. It was astounding. The change has arrived for sure, and hopefully will not seeing just one leap year in between. As we all know the road is tougher from this point on, not just for Obama alone.

Although the caked has baked well and the icing looks good too, the red cherry would be if a woman becomes a President of America. If Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and India (third world?) can have a lady heading the state/government is last two or three decades then USA should come forward as well.

I wonder if the song is Obama may be reflecting the same way this legendary Qawali does

Blog: A weird Tag.

There are two parts to this post, the post and the tag. I wish to the tag first. Cuckoo tagged with with 8 weird things about me. Well I feel weird hearing the word weird.

Time: The first thing after getting up and last thing before sleeping I rush for my wrist watch or mobile to check out the time. There have been times when I went to bed and after sometime woke up,switched on the lights, search for anything that shows time, watch mobile, new channels anything and then only decided to go to bed. If I get up early I obviously watch the time,if I am late Mom or Dad announce the time and request me to get up couple of times, although request quantum decreases after any announcement.

Chewing Gum: I so love chewing gums,I can chew it all day, literally. I mean chew the same chewing gums all day, or for more than a few hours at least. Can you blow a bubble with a bubble gum? I guess you could but can you make a bubble inside a bubble and go on for say 5-6 times? I mean bubble in a bubble in a bubble in a bubble in a bubble. I could do 8 such bubbles. :D But haven't done so in couple of years, shall try it out some day. My mom despises chewing gum, I don't think my father

Movies: Movie buff, have seen movies all my life.It started with Shammi Kapoor and Rajesh Khanna movies (arrey o Paro) ,but the magic has continued although I feel the quality of Hindi movie isn't anywhere acceptable. The last I saw was Chandani Chowk to China. Please don't see it, it wasn't a pleasant experience. It is a test of patience,

Weekends: I have almost a set of must do things on the weekend,a dinner or a lunch at a restaurant or something ordered from a restaurant,a royal brunch, catch up with few friends, beer and the Sunday siesta, add a blog post to this list.Nothing like cricket, beer, chicken Tandoori on a Sunday.

Cricket: I love the damn game.I know is it obvious rather than odd. I love to understand the nuances of the game, its history and hysteria the predictable uncertainty. Something that parallels life, most sports do, but the closets is cricket.

Clairvoyance: I wonder if I can sniff the future, especially the wrong doing's that I do the result is so obvious. :P

Humour/wit: It is about subtlety for me,I cannot sit and write a joke book but I love seeing people around me laugh not always at my expense though. It isn't that I came around and people just start rolling on the floor, as I said it is wit rather than humour.

History: I want to know the history of everything, of how things events and people unfolded. How and why the things are the weay they seem to be. It is plain curiosity nothing else.

About: German proverb for breakfast.

Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper.
- German Proverb

I don't know who said that but then slowly in life I am realizing that one needs to get up early in the morning to succeed in life, especially if you have your exams running.

I was served some grilled sandwich, Dhania chutney, cheese and toasted, grilled sandwich. I am not missing the mustard sauce though. I wonder if there is anything as a perfect breakfast, just eat what you like better never ever skip your breakfast. On the week day it is just a bowl of corn flakes and a glass of milk. I think I should have more, proper breakfast keeps your brains really charged for a longer time. A charged brain means more ability to bear colleagues and bosses. You can verify this one. Try skipping breakfast and people will see you dragging your feet and will start to get under your skin and a day will drag on for like for ever.

If you had your breakfast you can just return the favour, in double quick time, you dont have to do or say something nasty a quick tongue in cheek remark would do, or for that matter a wink.
I am one of those who would love to sleep for sometime following lunch or dinner. A 20-25 minutes sleep is luxury these days even for the opulent.

But then coming to breakfast, weekends can be no better, to really deep fry whatever you shallow fry in the weekdays. Dieting is good, but having a good breakfast and then working hard is really better.

Some wishful list of could have had breakfast*.

Eggs, any form, shape or number.
Croissant.
Cheese Grilled Sanwich.
Bread butter and Jam.
Idli and Sambhar.
Samosa or Kachoris.
Jalebi.

Thats about the eating part, wont mind having some beverages

Orange Juice.
Iced tea.
Coffee both hot and cold.
Milk (I know milk is know beverage.

This should serve me till lunch.
* A maximum of not more than two of the dishes and any one "beverage".

Happy Living.

Blog: A long sunday

I have been in a contemplative mood, keeping as many observations as possible. I called up a set of friends, a friend of mine has his birthday today, some more birthday lined up in coming fews day. By the way I have my exams too, just confirmed the exam dates yesterday, in short I have lots of "dates" coming up in next few days. The fun starts on the the 6 and ends of 19. Then I got places to visit and friends to meet. Lets see how I fare in times to come.

Practice is the key. MBA is kinda "different" you need to know a lot and you should present lots of examples. You need to rote/mug up/understand a lot of theory. But then it is tough in the sense, that one you should know a lot and second you should be able to put across the point to the person checking your paper. Both supplement each other. Since the time is of essence or rather in essence, going through Kotler is no easy taks, but then what you sow is what you reap isn't it. I know agri business seems to have a bright scope but I wasn't discussing agri business and the future ahead.

But something I like to discuss, is Amul. Yeah Amul the taste of India. It is an amazing story by itself, but I love their ads, they are a class in their own right.

Do checkc out it not only tickle the funny bone often it has a lingering thought that leaves int he mind, full marks for people behind Amul ads. I remember there use to be Amul hoarding in Juhu and at Worli and if I remember at Bandra-Mahim junction , but havent seen too many in the northern suburbs.

Then there were few snaps which were taken, my Bhabhi clicked the snap wanting my nephew to wear the sun glasses,he was n't to impressed with the idea of wearing, so I showed him the way to put on the sunglasses in style. I loved the snap coz of the kids expression, it say it all doesnt it? He wasn't keeping all that well a few weeks back, but know he is back in business and keep everyone on toes. He is very aware of his snaps being clicked, so much so that at times he hold the "pose" even after the snap is clicked. I wonder what goes through kid's mind. But then we ourselves don't know whats going through your mind, right.
