Cricket: India vs W.I Final O.D.I.

The series ended before it actually ended. Good things come to an end so does India’s good run, what ever comes up comes down. The only thing being it was not expected against West Indies. It is a bitter dose to swallow but nothing is as harsh as reality. I remember Dean Jones saying that West Indies would cruise to victory.

Poor start for both teams.
If anything was to go buy the catch that Dhoni dropped in the very first over was writing on the wall. It set the tone for West Indies. Sreesaanth seems to be unlucky with edges, they always seem to slip away from fielders hands. Poor soul I wish his luck changes in Test series. Agrakar ruined the day for the other West Indian opener claiming he for nothing. An Indian opener Robin Uthappa also failed to get going when Indian turned into bat.

It is a threatening Gayle.
Gayle looks ready to blow away the Indian bowling. It will be a very interesting series. I was always looking for to test series. If we are to loose the test series then it is a matter of concern. Gayle has got the better of Indian spearhead Irfan Pathan. He was ordinary at best against West Indies. He has a problem with bringing the ball back into left hander.

No wicket at all.
The Indian bowling has always struggled in the regions beyond Arabian Sea. The lack of penetrative bowling often cost as more than any other team. A team which has a good bowling attack will always look threatening in any form of cricket. The matters look bleaker with forced absence of Agarkar. Sarwan and Gayle and then Lara and Sarwan build a nice platform for them to accelerate in the end.
Indians playing an extra batsman meant that Viru had to bowl. I think he and Yuvraj should be often used as a bowling option as both are thinking bowlers. Viru knocked of Gayle after being struck for two consecutive fours.

Bravo is indeed very good.
Bravo helped them winning Champion Trophy couple of years back. As far as I remember it was a tight match. He also batted well against the Aussies in Aussies earlier in the year. He is a good prospect for West Indian team. There is a flourish in his strokes which is often a hallmark of a genuinely good batsman. He did not murdered the bowling put stepped on the paddle with Hinds and made sure the Indians have a tough task on their hands. The matters were helped by giving an extended spell to Agarkar in the death.

Indian also start poor.
Robin Uthappa was sent packing for nothing. Dravid came in and tried steadied the innings was run out soon. Indians looked in shambles. The batsmen scored at a rapid pace but the rate of batsmen getting out seemed to be quicker. No two batsmen seemed eager to sew a partnership and steady the innings. Then Kaif was given a raw deal asking hin to bat way below. I think Kaif a steady player same mould as Dravid. He is more of grafter rather than a basher and seems to need some time before accelerating.

No partnerships sank the ship.
There were not enough building blocks of runs which could have bought Indians closed to the target. The partnership looked threatening. The West Indians cleaned up most of what Indian batting had to offer. The end result was obvious. The Indian batsmen have undermined themselves and the body language was that of a person going about his job after resigning. I think Indian team had a very bad body language.
Does India losing 1-4 makes Dravid a bad captain and Chapell a bad coach?

The game of cricket is never over unless the last wicket is taken and the last run score.
This series reiterated this cricketing adage. I hope Indians put up a better show in Tests.

Cricket: India vs W.I. Fourth O.D.I.

Q: Punctuate the following sentence:-
"Tigers at home and lambs abroad"

Choose any one of the following.
a) Full stop (.)
b) Question Mark (?)
c) Exclamation Mark (!)

It was a bitter pill to swallow for the Indian fans. The unexpected has happened. West Indies have beaten India in that form of cricket which attracted the minds of all cricketing brains. The myth was blown away by West Indies who are trying to revive for over a decade now. The myth was partly created by stellar performances at home. The modus operandi was to not minding to bat second, trying to keep a check on the score to be chased. The two trump cards were MSD and Irfan Pathan, both did not play to full potential. The major issue was swept under the carpet, in the wake of winning which was Indian bowling is a little weak link.
I think just pitches are not the reasons for dismal performances above. There has to be something wrong in the preparation or application.

Gayle has a better measure of Pathan.
Pathan bowls perfect lines to right hand bastmen but seems to lose control when it comes to bowling to left handers. West Indies have like of Gayle, Chanderpaul and Lara in there ranks. Gayle is dynamite he can blow the opposition away or sink his own team. Chanderpaul is all about grit and determination. Lara is a class all by himself. He made a very good 50 and helped register a very impressive series win. Pathan will do well if he can pick them up. His poor form with the bowl did ot help is batting and there were very few things positive about his body language. I think he should be dropped for the final One Dayer. His form with the ball and bat is very important in the context of the up coming Test series.

West Indians cruise to victory.
Indians failed to trigger a West Indian collapse. There was no hurry as Lara and Gayle looked in awesome control and did well to keep on chiping away the runs and then the matched reached the stage where the target looked as simple as take water out of refrigerator. This was also helped by a lacklustre bowling which was already grinded toothless in previous matches.

Harbhajan kept it tight.
Harbhajan should have some bearing over this series. He has been absolutely awesome. He has looked were threatening and West Indies batsmen have given him the due respect. There was no other bowler apart from Agarkar who could even think of claiming wickets in current form.

Up coming One Dayer.
Will India play for pride? Will West Indies make it 4-1? I would love to see Pathan rested. Raina should open with Sehwag. Kaif has to be the number three. Dravid can sit pretty on four. Dhoni should come after Yuvraj to give the finish to the innings. Pathan should be given the license to bat at seven. But will we find wicket taking bowlers?

What is your answer to the above question? My answer is Fullstop.

First Edition.
India has just about managed keeping their noses above the water. At one point in time I felt they would struggle to get to 200 then later I realized they would be bowled out before completing the allotted quota of 50 overs. They did post a chaseable 217.

The opening slot is a spot of bother.
Sehwag needs to be a bit more consistent. He would not want to rest on a 97 for too long. The end of Sehwag courtesy a good catch saw Dravid struggling. Raina is wasted at number 3, he should be opening instead. The number 3 (One down) is for Rahul Dravid. If this happens Kaif will come at four. If one can imagine he coming at four and making a useful contribution as he did today and then he can pave way for Yuvraj who is a brilliant finisher along with M.S.D. (Mahendra Singh Dhoni ;P )then I am sure India is bound to have better finishes.

Team’s performance vs key player’s performance.
It is a paramount requirement in sub continental cricket teams that the captain and/or senior most player does well for the team to do well. If they don’t the team does not offer much charm to be followed. Dravid is a prime example atleast for this one. He is struggling and there is no exuberance and panache that we now associate with “Team India”, also important to note is that Team India’s performance has often coincided with Tendulkar form (or lack of it) and or his fitness levels, before for the reasons ever so obvious. Dravid, now is the senior most player and also the captain so the captain has to do well for the team to do well. He has not been upto the mark and other have not the ability/luck to push home the advantage.

A bus of opportunity missed.
I think besides Tendulkar and Ganguly not many Indian batsmen are willing to go down the track to spinners. Kaif who is a grafter and not a stroke player waited too long and Dhoni who took a safer route did not take too many chance seemed to have missed the bus. Lara on the other hand shuffled his bowlers well to stifle Indian batsmen in the death overs. I think Indians might have to pay for missing or failing to create opportunity between overs 35 and 40.

Indians high on M.S.D.
M.S.D helped India claw back from a woeful position by collecting 29 runs of last three overs which could be the deciding factor of this match. He walloped, dispatched and improvised to collect some good boundaries and he has just perhaps made India breathe easy. Low scoring matches are fun provided India bowls well

Dravid put the thinking cap on.
West Indies have a lot of left handers and they struggled against spin bowling. It will be interesting to is whether if at all he uses Sehwag and Yuvraj to some effect. Harbhajan is a class act and Powar needs to tighten his act. Can irfan get better of Gayle? I thinkhe should come up first change as he has not much to show again in terms of control. If Indians keep wides and no-balls to minimum and field well we have a real nail biter on our hands.

24.5.06

Cricket: India vs W.I. Third O.D.I.

The West Indies take a vital lead by winning back to back matches to lead the series 2-1. Indian have to do well to make sure the series isn’t decided before it is completed. The score-line like this is hard to believe for us the Indian fans. But as I have already blogged we have to give up our number crunching paranoia for the sake of the team.

West Indians carry the momentum.

Cricket is a funny game in more than one ways. The three runs out were the summary of things to come. Indians restricted themselves an opportunity to bat West Indies out of the game. The West Indians only had to bat the fifty overs and it might have been a cruise for them.

West Indies have a shaky start.

Irfan Pathan definitely looks out of boil. The conditions are not actually in his favour. He has to content with lots of left handers. He seems to be lacking control. He was again taken to task by Gayle. Sreesanth bough in first change and straight away claimed Samuels. Agarkar claimed Morton in the very next over. Sarwan walked in and looked in control.

Shame on selectors. Agarkar will be missing out on test.
The “youngsters” fund was bought in by Ganguly and Chappell only reiterated the fact. Ganguly fought hard for the team he wanted. He can be credited to bring in people like Yuvraj, Kaif, Sehwag, Nehra, Pathan, Parthiv and whole lot of others who seem to have been of the radar at least for now. But he stood by the players he wanted. He is perhaps paying the price now. Agarkar who has been the pick of bowlers at least in One Days has been excluded out of the Test. No reasons will ever be given for his exclusion. If the team is to be selected on merit which is based on performances then Agarkar was a surety in the Test team. His conclusion is a proof that good performances alone won’t fetch in the Test ticket. I would like to see him perform brilliantly in the upcoming One Day and make the selectors feel ashamed of his exclusion. Pathan is off the boil and Agarkar will do a team the world of good if he stays back.

Harbhajan again shows his class.

Harbhajan who was off the boil till, before the One Day series against England showed his class by dismissing the best players of any bowling, the ever mercurial Lara. Lara who walked in with no pressure to score runs was foxed by guile of Harbhajan. Harbhajan bowled a turning delivery pitched outside Lara’s leg stumped turning towards Rahul Dravid stationed at first slip. Lara turned to flick it fine and all he could do was to snick it and Dravid completed the formalities of the catch.

Chanderpaul makes it a cake walk for West Indies.
Chanderpaul is a complete opposite of Sarwan. He is awful to watch but has saved West Indies many a times from shameful lows. He has a brilliantly record against India and he will repeat his performances if the Indian bowlers don’t work him out. India could not get many inroads even after they managed to push the scoring rates beyond six an over. This shows that any team which has wickets in the end and can sustain pressures is bound to do well.
A few lessons to be learnt.
The Indian team and fans alike have to wake up to the fact that series against West Indies in West Indians is not a cake walk. They will be under pressure to do well in the next match. If they don’t do well then there series against Sri Lanka, Pakistan and England will be ruined. Is India remain a good One Day team or this tag is only applicable while playing at home? The answer to this question lies in the result of next few One Day games.

The third one day shifted out from Jamaica to Trinidad. The Indians took up batting first.

The Coach's curse.
Mr Chapell the things are good the way they are your job is not appreciation but extracting and maintaining a performance level an optimum level. Rahul Dravid seems to be going down the hill. I have enough confidence in him that he will come back. He was out in the first over.

Raina promoted, Kaif demoted, Yuvraj dumped.

Raina was promoted courtesy after Dravid was striked out early. He is a good player and I hope to see him open One Day. This will atleast prove that is he good enough to take a huge responsibility on young shoulders. The history of One Days suggest that a teenage protégé took up this responsibility more than a decades back and today his records is what Avogadro’s Number is to molecular chemistry. I think he can do it. Kaif was again given a raw deal. There was a noted slump in his form when he was dumped after scoring a match saving ninety against the English in Nagpur.
I am not convinced as to what is the rotation policy. Why was Yuvraj dropped? I am asking as I have not heart any news of a possible injury to Yuvraj? Why should a good finisher of a One Day game be dumped?

Sehwag tonks bad form.
Sehwag was lucky to be playing for this long without worthwhile scores for some time now. He played well and tonked his bad form with some innovative fanciful batting. I saw some cut shorts of his and they were all about power. His dismissal turned the match around for West Indies.

Middle order runs out.

The middle order batsmen chose “run out” as the preferred mode of dismissal. It was shocking to write it in simple terms. There was a huge collapse which saw Indians scoring just 60 runs of last nineteen over. The inexperience showed along with some poor team selection.

Bravo, Bravo.
Bravo looks good bowler and a very good lower order batsman. He impresses me and always seems to be in thick of the action. The West Indian bowling just exploded in the scene and Indian struggle to get past 250.

Gayle has a measure of Pathan. Agarkar looks in control.

Pathan struggling against Gayle and needs to do something early to make sure there is some success for him on what can be called helpful pitches. Ajit Agarkar is likely to get the berth for test as he has put in impressive bowling figures against his name.

The end of first edition.
India has to return favours to the West Indies if they have to win this one. The West Indies on the other hand would look to play out the fifty over and they will score the required 247. They have a decent middle order. It now looks a match between the Indian spinners and West Indies batting.

Cricket: India vs W.I. Second ODI.

This blog is about the end of a certain dream run, that whipped up an aura and hype that Indian cricket was searching after Ganguly was dumped and Sachin Tendulkar was mired by a combination of poor form and injuries. It was a breath taking run but none of the fans thought it would end by not chasing a score which seemed to be the walk in the park for the Men in Blue.

The West Indies put in.
The Indian bowling got the better of West Indian top order with the Gayle phenomenon was punctured by Agarkar. His dismissal was a combination of some over confidence and some very penetratie bowling by Agarkar. It was all credit to Agarkar for keeping a tight line first up. Morton was easy picking for Pathan. Lara is always vulnerable wide out-side off-stump. He was sucked into the temptation of flirting with a wide delivery.

Chanderpaul also fooled.
Chanderpaul, who is the most effective but most awfull display of batting interms of style and stroke play. He has often been thorn in Indian bowling flesh, he did not last too long after Harbhajan was hit over the top for couple of boundaries came back to clain Chanderpaul. He hit a simple catch to Kaif in the covers on a ball which should have been hot for a boundary.

Sarwan sticks on.
He is another delight to watch. He is one who often gives in when u think he is going to open up for some delightful strokes. He battled against cramps and dehydration and come up with a gritty knock and helped Windies to get close to 200. In the end he won the Man of the match

Bowling looks good.
Pathan and Agarkar looks good. I hope Agarkar is retained for Tests. Munaf Patel seems to be wondering how to bowl on green wickets. It is a weakness tough, the Indian batsmen don’t know how to bat on green wickets and bowlers looked puzzled when they have to bowl on a green top. This has been a traditional weakness. The wisdom of line and length is not often followed and the advantage is often returned to the hosts.

The beginning of the end of a “Dream Run”.
As proclaimed by the Indian coach, Dravid often makes sure there is no collapse in the top order. The slump started with Sehwag hitting the ball straight into keepers hands and Dravid walked out of park after Bradshaw got him caught behind courtesy the left arm bowlers angle. The next to go was Pathan who hoiked the ball knee height to mid on where Samuels took a night catch. His dismissal was also the trigger of defeat and this is were the dream run begun to take a sad turn the other batsmen just completed the formalities. When Kaif hit a ball high up in the air and did not cover enough ground and a simple catch was completed I shut my TV close in dismay.

Say no to experiments.
They came and went with no one waiting to hold one end up it was downhill after Indians were reduced 60 for 4. It is time that Indians stoped with experiments coz there are careers of people like Kaif and Raina at stake. I think Sehwag has to be dropped now. Suresh Raina should be asked to open the batting. Kaif should be the regular one down even if Tendulkar returns. Irfan Pathan should cover the number seven slot. Dhoni should precede him. Yuvraj should guide the middle order from three down.

An advise to Indian fans.
I am also included in this list. The dream run has ended. I think we all fans are lovers of stats. This has to be given up and we should back our Team to do well rather than resign to submission. This match also reminded me off a match in ’99 World Cup, South Africa vs Australia. A tied match.

It again made my belief that “Indian cricket team is a team which can make a one sided match exciting” you can call it whatever you want but this feeling in me is there to stay.
There are some more exciting moments for us the spectators hopefull some of them would not be as heart breaking. The end which are sad are often very painful. This is how the dream run ended.

19.5.06

Cricket: India vs West Indies, First ODI

The dream run continues.

Tough task set.
The West Indies might be ruing the fact that they could have driven home the advantage by amassing a total inexcess of 20 but that was not the possibility as the Indian bowlers did a good cleaning up job by restricting the hosts to just 251. This made sure that in form but a fragile middle order could keep things in control. A 250 was a tough ask tough and India needed to almost pull this match with all the muscle they had.

Sehwag without run scoring ideas. Raina must be tested.
He still seems out of sorts. He looks feeble and lack lustre. The best thing for him would be too stick around and get some momentum going for himself even if it means playing an unfamiliar and uncharacteristic manner. He hardly looked in tune with the pace of the game. Could anyone believe Dravid playing at run a ball while Sehwag just defending? But that was the story in the last game. There is a case of pushing Sehwag down the order if not dropping him and make way for a young Raina to open the innings. I think if ( and when )Tendulkar comes back to open in O.D.I.’s he and Raina would be a good pair (right and left opening batsmen at that ) and who better partner for Raina then Tendulkar at the other end from ball one. Raina has a decent technique suited for One Days, he isn’t flashy enough and doesn’t mind hitting over the top.

Yuvraj takes a deep plunge in knee level waters.
Yuvraj try to repeat performance which he was displaying in recent history did not amuse many by playing a nothing shot, kudos to Samuel as he held onto a very good catch. I think would advise him to look and leap. Over confidence has ruined a many. I think I would have preferred him settling down and some quiet over wouldn’t have mattered much coz he is a very good finisher of the One Day game along with Abdur Razaaq, Brendon McCullum, Andrew Symonds and Kevin Pietersen. He is perhaps on the top one feels. I think number four is a place best suited for him, number three is a bit too much.

Kaif accidentally discovers some runs.
Kaif’s runs getting capabilities seemed to waning after guiding his state to Ranji success. His batting woes were worsened by some poor opportunities given to him. He looked rugged as well and two dropped catches only helped his cause. The fact that he hit winning runs in a tight match makes we wonder if he has left behind his bad form. His form was so poor that he just averaged in binaries in couple of series and he might have saved more runs than he scored. He is a good prospect for both forms of the game as he has better technique to Yuvraj in the longer form. The comparison between Kaif and Yuvraj often reminds me of Dravid and Ganguly. Kaif has perhaps the best qualities of Azhar and Dravid.
The fact that Dravid was other end to guide him also might have clamed his nerves. He plays well with Dravid. A good partnership between him and Dravid was the key to Indian success. It is so good to see someone from the middle order to raise his hand up when there is a crisis. So far so good for Dravid Chapell and Indian cricket team.

All and all it’s just another brick in the Wall.
The team has done exceedingly well so has the Captain courageous, Rahul Dravid. A century in the very first game is a chasing cause will help the team a great deal and perhaps set the tone for the coming Test Series as well. There is a lot of class in Rahul Dravid, I will again reiterate what I love about Dravid, he is a timeless classic, if ever anyone wishes to write an illustrated manual of batting he has to include Dravid picture perfect snaps. Dravid’s strokeplay is shear delight as it covers all angle of batting be it a powerful cut or a pull or an elegant silken cover drive or the timing of a signature flick to the mid wicket boundary or just a push to long on and long off he is a pure delight.. He can play for ages and I don’t mind him seeing ever.
The middle order has done so exceedingly well and credits lies to the man who has picked up the gauntlet of opening the innings in absence of Tendulkar and now a prolonged and sad exclusion of Ganguly from the O.D.I. It is no mean task opening especially after not having much experience. This is Dravid’s determination. He leads by setting examples that’s what has taken the team to this level.

Indians caught in a Gayle.

The series and the match started an hour late. The series started in a manner most hated by true Cricket fans, the ground staff did a great work to ensure there is atleast 90% of the game was ensured. The pitch, that was coloured in aq colour which the Indian team envies the most, the Indian fan prayed Indians won the toss. They did it and managed to put West Indies into bat.

Poor Show Ten Sports.
I miss ESPN-STAR although they enjoyed cricketing broadcast privilege for nearly a decade the other channels coming up still have to catch up standards set by them. The coverage was awfull as the TV screens only displayed the playing members of this team.

Poor start with the ball.
Irfan Pathan taking wicket in the opening spell is now a custom. He was wayward and off the line and I remember another left arm quick who seems to played in the team while ago aka Zaheer Khan there was a similar disastrous start then and I remember knowing the result after the first over itself. I don’t want to feel the déjà vu again. The first over saw couple of wides no-balls some pitched up and some half tracker. There was one particular delivery which Chris Gayle very reluctantly hit towards the boundary, it was a real half tracker. Dravid had the luxury of the other 3 bowlers out of whom only one put his hand up. The West Indies score read 87 for none in 13.3 overs after which the first wicket fell.

Agarkar rises to challenge.Harbhajan stamps the rot.
Agarkar is a tremendous first change bowler. I think he has a lot more control once the white ball loses its shine. He proved it once again. He maintained line and length got rewarded with a wicket of a very impressive Morton. He also maintained enough pressure ensuring that Harbhajan snarls up Sarwan for not too many. He returned with the figures of 9-0-37-2.

Lara and Gayle steadied the ship.
The two got a partnership going and not only steadied the ship but also rocked the Indian bowling with some Calypso cricket. This resulted in a solid partnership of 82 runs in 14 over and three balls. The strokeplay was a blitzkrieg with spinners being tonked out of the park. The partnership was also helped by extras. There were plenty of them actually. Gayle then notched up a very bludgeoning century. I wonder if it is his best score. It was a strokeful century with nearly two thirds of his runs coming in boundaries.

Indians mop up.
The Indian bowlers mopped up some poor show with ball in the frist innings. It is upto the batsmen to score a good challenging 251 in 45 overs. There is no doubt over the capability but the Indians have to lay to rest fear of chasing in second innings abroad and the West Indian bowling is not something our batsmen may be accustomed to. The Indian bowlers held onto their nerves and managed to restrict West Indians to 251 which at one time looked 275.

The end of the first edit.
It is getting really late as I finish up and I have to go to sleep against my wishes of watching Indian chase. Lets see of this night has some surprise stored up for me. I hope we are not underestimating West Indies in the light of recent Indian performances at home.

17.5.06

Cricket: SL vs England, First Test.

The conservative English.
I think for once even in the hindsight a score of in excess of 500 wont yield result. I know the Lankans struggle abroad, it would have been a good match had England declared between 450 and 500. It has to be a flat track for the English to bat and score 550. The smashers like Trescothick and Pitersen hammered century while cook looked good for a century but missed out. Murlaitharan failed to pick up wickets and Lankans struggle. As Murali stuglled he castled Collingwood with a stinging off spinner and he was beaten for lack of bounce and spin.

The meek Lankan reply.
The follow up to an average bowling performance was a disaster to say the least there were four noughts in the Lankan line up and the English bowlers were on song. Jayawardene whose the captain played well for a 65. He looks good to score every-time. I think there is a great deal of similarity between him and Ramnaresh Sarwan of West Indies both a smooth silken, touch players with lot of grace and style. They both are good off-drivers and both need to deliver more often

The Lankans follow on.
The track was such a flat one that batting would have been a bit simpler the second time round. The Lankans score with all most everybody contributing with the bat. They amassed a total of 539 and kept the English away from even a sniff of a chance. Sangakara looked good and will score atleast one century. As I said Tim Moody the Lankan coach’s prayers were answered as rains too helped the Lankan cause of drawing the match. Jayawardene followed his uncomplished effort with a gritty 100. He was almost run out as he rushed to complete his century. He reached there though and deservedly got man of the match.

India and West Indies.
The West Indians are on a decline from a decade and yet India is not able to beat them in a test series. The West Indians have a couple of bowlers clocking up 140 kmph. Indians are favourites to win the One Day series. That’s what they did last time too. I am a bit apprehensive of Indian fragility against pace bowling and dodginess of Chanderpaul, the talent of Sarwan and off course there is a certain Lara to catch up with. They have a tail which wags. I am really looking forward to the Test to start.

About: Who’s the worst?

Is Himesh Reshamiya worst singer than Anu Malik? Who would win the worst singer award if there is a competition. Will Himesh Reshamiya the “new kid” on the block beat the wind out of Anu Malik’s wind pipe or the worst of Anu Malik’s is yet to come.
I wonder will there be less mosquitoes in my room if I set to blast a playlist consisting of the worsty of both. Is there voice a mosquito replent.
I would take the pleasure of listing some of the worst songs of Anu Malik.
East or West: Movie Judwaa starring Salmaan. I wonder why Salmaan’s home productions have a dubious track record of having some of the most awful lyrics.
Mera dil ro raha hai: Anu Malik;s private album. For God sake I never wish to knew what the name of the album really was.
Dhuan dhuan ho raha hai sama: Anu Malik songs again, details of which are held back in public interest.
Aila re ladki mast: Starring Sanjay and Shilpa don’t care finding much about the movie.

I think the worst of the post is over. If anyone does wishes to list the Anu Malik songs that you hate please feel free, but do issue a warning that you are doing so.

Disclaimer: This is just a “rant” I have no antipathy towards Mr. Reshamiya or Mr. Anu Malik but I think it would do people a lot of good if they stopped singing and stick to composing (looking for inspiration or Ctrl C / Ctrl X and Ctrl V).

Cricket:Lankans hatching eggs at Lord’s.

It is very late into the night I was logging off when I decide to have a look at the score of Sri Lanka v.s. England test under play at Lords. I was astonished to see them at 91 for 6. The score card obviously looked like an international dialing code. It is amazing how the class players of the subcontinents (offcourse India included) fail to tune in on pitches abroad. The ball so lazily finds the edge first and then the same hands of waiting slip fielder who accept those with glee.

The English prospers.
Pietersen again stamped his class with a meaty century and Alistair Cooks again looked good. Marcus Tresocthick blew his virus away with his 14 century yesterday. Collingwood was bowled by a vicious Murali delivery. Flintoff had a few lusty hits and declared the English innings at 550. It had to be flat pitch for England to score those runs. It was once again amazing to see the home side (England) batting in bright sun-shine and clouds gather when the oppositions mark their guard onto the popping crease.

The English seam attack.
The now very famous English attack broke the back of a very gritty bowling and some ordinary flash in the pan batting. There was no fight offered. The English team would rue the chance of not making the Lankans follow on. The team looks a bit different with a Jayasurya who had bailed them out of trouble often. The debutant Sajjid Mehmood rocked the Sri Lankan boat by claining three quick wickets.

Looking forward to second chance?
It is already day two and three days yet remain. Tom Moddy who happens to be the sri Lankan coach would be thinking of praying to Gods for rains. Sri Lanka will do very well if the somehow manage a very unlikely draw. Flintoff and boys would be licking their lips and eager to scythe Sri Lanka and then ask them to bat them again and take the lead in the three match series.

About : Eternal Songs.

There are some Hindi songs which I can hear till eternity. I feel there is something very soothing about these songs. They tend to convey many emotions all in one musical note. I am fond of radio, Surat does not have much of private radio service *sob sob* and this place has potential to make it into a commercial success. Whenever I get a chance to go to Mumbai I make sure that I hear atleast to four hours of radio, by the way irrespective of whats the time the radio set is practically on. The 24 hours service is a great help and I truly believe the private radio in Mumbai make living in a city a bit easier.
The following list of songs is as follows,
Raat ke hamsafar: sung by Asha and Rafi for the movie An Evening in Paris starring Sharmila and Shammi.
Main zindagi ka saath: sung by Rafi for the movie Hum Dono starring Dev Anand.

Blog: Update.

New Template.
As many of you would have noticed by now, I have changed my blog template. I think it was time to move ahead and I think it will be time again for a change in the near future. The black theme will remain though. The reason is to simplify my blog page as many of the clutter had gathered. My aim was to make it look real simple and easy to navigate. There was an opportunity for me to get Psycho after being Sysco, Disco and Khysco. I tried to change a few easy parameters I think I got a blog template of my choice. I then made the necessary changes and made sure the comments are done properly.
Then there was a big headache with the “Links” and “Blog Exchange” but I managed to hold in reins of my patience and get the things going. There are some more changes that will be done, but I think I have recovered most of it.

Cricket.
A sub-standard cricket pitch helped South Africa paved a series win over New Zealand. I think New Zealand is a team to watch out for the World Cup provided they take care of their fast bowlers. It was good to see Greame Smith scoring runs. He remains a protégé who needs to fulfil his abilities. Makhya Ntini rocked in the first inning and then was rocked with showing nothing in the second innings. This game is such a leveller, that’s what it is about. It was some ordinary level of pitches and I think South Africa can prepare some better quality pitches.
Sachin is fit for the test … atleast he claims so. I frankly prefer an inform and “scoring” Tendulkar to a boring sedative out of form Tendulkar. I think West Indies bowlers are only about pace. I hope we already have a plan chucked out for them. I hope Laxman is picked along with an additional keeper and good pace attack. There have been number of earthquake news of late and I hope God listen to my prayers and something untoward does not happen.

All type of suggestions/complaints/appreciations about the new template are welcome provided you are precise about whatever it is …

About: Last Tributes.

There are many definitions of greatness but I would define it as “Achieving something timeless in one’s life-time.” I think it fits well for a very respected “Naushad Saab”. The legendary Naushad Ali saab passed away today. He was a veteran and an eye witness to rise of Hindi/Bollywood cinema from it’s infancy. His achievements are fresh colours on canvas by a master creative artist.

Naushad and Mughal-E-Azam.
His compositions are timless in themselves. He composed music for Mughal-E-Azam, which is again an all time classic and marks the highest echelons of a creative geniuses of film making, music composing, acting, playback singing, dialogue writing and everything else which constitutes film making. I have seen the epic’s “colour” edition in theatre and believe me, the movie is connoisseur’s delight.

The Golden Years.
He was also a part of elite group of music composers who composed music during the late fities till the early seventies. This period was the golden period with best of talents composing music, best lyrics written by all time great writer’s and sung by singers whose popularity never shrunk, instead continues to grow. These played again and again on radios for decades then on television serials like “Chitrahaar” and “Rangoli” and now they are re-done and re-made and re-mixed. Their legacy is ever blossoming rosary.

Naushad’s Contributions.
The master can be credit to bringing to fore a “Lata Mangeshkar” and “Mohd. Rafi”, both legends in their own right. His music compositions for various other movies will always remind us of the class of this master.
