About: Film Review.

Darna Zaroori (नही) Hai.
“Too many cooks spoil the broth”, if ever you wish to see an example of these words try hooking on to “Darna Zaroori Hai” I was on YM when I was about to leave for the movie last night Cheesy met me on YM, she already hinted me what kind of the movie it would be.
I would not be spilling out any of the beans. The starting was very good but I think it started to slope a little downwards from there. This movie as in the case of all thriller movies is all about camera work and music, the hallmark of this genre of cinema. This was the case too with “Darna Zaroori Hai” but it was overdone I feel. The stories were predictable and one would guess what would unfold, so the element of mystery was not there. The pace was thankfully good. I don’t know what the plot featuring Anil Kapoor and Sunil Shetty was for. Rajpal Yadav shows his class in the sequence featuring Sunil Shetty. Arjun Rampal looked good and Ramu extracted the best of a very limited him. Bipasha and Mallika looked glamorous as usual. I seriously think that there is more in Mallika Sherawat than just her curves, I personally think she can do justice to whatever is given to her. Sajid Khan directed one of those sequence could you believe that.
This genre needs a full Ramu treatment I would prefer him to direct this movie rather than outsource it to his sub-ordinates. I personally think his best efforts continues to be “Rangeela” and “Satya” I think he still has to climb over these two movies and raise a bar in coming time. I think he has his won team and is very comfortable with his set of actors.
The times have shifted in Hindi movies too, there are no more “Dhinchak-Dhinchak” songs, and the duration for the movie has significantly reduced. The reduced duration of movies is blessing in disguise coz sometimes you don’t kick yourself for bearing it for 3 hours.

Blog: Beat the heat.

The long summer is here to stay. It is still a long way to go before the rain gods attend to our miss call of prayers and return favour by calling back. But till then we have to attend in the summers by being in silent mode. I do so to make sure I protect myself from throat infections which come along with extended Indian summers. I am weary of throat infection as they drag along for weeks to no end. Not to mention the potential threat of a viral attack that they bring along with them. . Anyway there are a few tips I follow when it some to summers.
  • Avoid direct sun whenever possible. Walk in the shades if possible.

  • Put on a cap if you have to go out in the sun. Make sure it is a nice easy to wear cotton cap.

  • Drink truck loads of water.

  • Stay away from “soft” drinks.

  • Say no to hard drinks and hard nicotine.

  • Suppose you come back with in the four walls of your confine don’t rush to grab your “cold” water bottle / soft drink. Relax get used to the confines. Make sure the heavy panting breath is normal.Avoid chilled, refrigerated cold water, instead just add no more than two cubes of ice in a glass water

  • The A.C. in your room is no dryer so don’t expose yourself to sudden drop in temperature by standing in front of the A.C.

  • Exchange the amount of soft drink you consume with fresh fruit juices.

  • Don’t rush to have a bath. It may sound weird but try taking a bath with warm water in the morning and a cold bath before having dinner. Now don’t equate warm and hot.

  • Wear cotton/natural fabric.

  • Heard of Curds? Halg glass of curds + halg glass of water spice it with pepper, coriander (dhania), jeera, and salt. You would love it believe me, try this at home.

  • Try to have a glass of chaas, lassi, raita, with meals.

Blog: I was Sysco.

God, I havenot gone Pscho, so everyone is requested to read the following lines. I have been following these three terminologies to couple of my blogger friends with whom I have the pleasure of using a messenger. The three terms are as follows.

Disco
: The people who use dial up or have a very shaky LAN often fall to a bug called Disconnected for server. Hence they get Disco.

Sysco: There is a hardware/software problem in your terminal resulting in no Internet connection resulting in you being "Sysco".
I had a problem with my LAN coonection and Icould not connect to the net for obvious reason.I tried surfing for local cyber cafes but I yearned for comforts of the internet connection at home.I think it is worth it after 10 days.

Khysco:Thats what you do when one is tired of warming the chairs on which the person sits for couple of hours trying to explain people the reason for his absence for an extended period.
I would like to wih a big Hello to everyone.I think for the time being I would be catching up with people.
There would be some more post over the weekend and if I am lucking I would love to post a few movie reviews.

Blog: Good Friday.

This story is in flashback.

The idea of going to Shirdi was brewing up within me for some time now. It was Thursady, mom had kept a little puja which was attend by small group of people. The puja started at around 6:30 and ended in an hour. I was now hell bent on leaving for Shirdi. In between I managed to read an article about a trip to Shirdi on Rediff. Rediff happens to be my favourite sight, beside that it hold my oldest surviving e-mail id.
I decided that even I should make a trip to Shirdi. As of always my decisions were made on the last instant and on instincts. My driver took the pains to come in and drop me to a place in the heart of Surat city where the bust stand is located at ten in the night. I went into the first office and asked for a “sleeper” ticket. I know I don’t travel that well sitting that why I preferred a “sleeper” coach. The clerk suggested I could get only a non sleeper coach so I walked into another travel office. He issued me a sleeper ticket much to my happiness.
The seat was at the rear end. I was travelling with a group of friends where people were chattering late into the night. As the bus was about to leave around 11 I wished my near and dear ones good bye and sought their blessing.
I think I was awake for almost half an hour. The chatter and laughter was bugging me a bit but then I managed to slip into a deep sleep. I was awaken early in the by a loud thud as the bus hit a bumper. I was awake for 15 more minutes then I managed to sleep again and did not open my eyes before the bus finally halted in Shirdi in 8 in the morning.

It is a struggle.
I suggest if you are leaving in for Shirdi one must make a booking to the hotels and reconfirm it before leaving. Anyways I took a not so decent room, I managed to freshen up. My mobile was dead and so I also recharged my mobile. A local “Prasad” vendor managed to catch hold of me and I did not put him down and bought the “Prasad” without any fuss. I was a bit put off by people gathering all round me and making me feel like SRK/ AB baby. I then had the Indian breakfast of a sada dosa. There is a lot of things to choose from by the way. I kept my bag in the cloak room and deposited my camera, iPod and mobile to the authorities as well.

There was serpent like queue.
The arrangements have definitely improved since I made the trip couple of years back. There was a long queue consisting of people of all faiths and strata of society. There were people of all ages and all were eager to catch sight of the Shri Sai. The line thankfully kept moving chanting names in almost all languages that could be heard in India. The line kept moving and the bhajans and chants kept all interested.

After three hours.
The line lept moving stoping and then moving again. There was a break for lunch between 12:15 and 12:45. I managed to stand for few minutes then took a breather and then stood again. The line started moving again and then there was excitement as an “Aarti” was about to take place. Then the crowd was request to sit in a very large hall and the “Aarti” was performed. I did not follow much was what was going on but I tried to be with the crowd and bow down my head and offer my own “Aarti”.
The real “Darshan”. The “Aarti” ended with me feeling good as I was about to have “Darshan” of Shri Sai. There was a long queue and in between I manged to touch the priest’s feet and glance at Shri Sai. I seeked his blessing. I think his glimpse, which lasted for not more than a minute was worth the three hours in queue.
Lunch. I came out and bought a cold water bottle and a cold drink. I then collected my iPod, Camera and mobile. Then I called up my folks. Then I searched for a restaurant and managed to have a plate of Pav Bhaji, the Indian junk food. I then decided to book a bus ticket back home. I booked the sleeper ticket in no fuss and I thought well I could relax then. It was real hot all afternoon. I then went back to the complex and decided to sit around in the complex. Then I though of finding batteries for my Camera, I bought in “Duracell” which I knew would work. It did.

They kept pouring in.
There was everyone coming in from all parts of India. People were thronging in and there was a sense of hurry among all, as all wanted to seek blessing of Shri Sai. I managed to find solace in a crowded corner. I then decided to bring my camera into some action. I took the snap of temple housing, Ganesha, Shiva and Shani Dev. I then clicked a few photographs and after my first round of photograph, I queued for the priced “Vibhooti” I took three turn before sitting in front of a fountain just besides the complex.

The hot afternoon tested me.
It was real hot and I managed to fight weariness with help of water bottle and cold drinks and taking some snaps. A nice guys clicked my snap on my request and While the camera was in my head I did not felt much of heat as I roamed around the temple complex which attracted lots of people as there was a holiday packed weekend. It was so good to see people who managed to come in and made it to “Darshan”. I too obliged a few people with a snap request, slowly the blistering afternoon gave way to a very pleasant evening and my camera was busy taking a few snaps and deleting which did not look the worth.

Bid Adieu.
It was around six in the evening when I decided for a last stroll of the complex and took this sneak peak at Shri Sai and I thought this snap would be for my parents. The digital age helped them with an “e-Darshan”. I know that photography is not allowed inside but nothing as such was written outside the temple. Then I thought it was content to take a last bow and bid adieu with regards and humility.
Dinner. I decided to have Dosa again. I had two. The bus was slated for departure at 8 o’clock in the evening but left after 8:30, with 4 passenger and three “crew”. There was no stop before Nashik at 11. I felt hungry and feasted myself on “Prasad”. As there was a choice to exchange seats, I changed my seats to a lower sleeper. I sleeped and in the way picked up a stiff back, I got up in the vee hours when the bus stopped at Navsari. It was about 4:30 in the morning. The bus entered the city and I woke up at my destination by the “conductor”. The car was there to pick me up and I reached home a touch before six. It was a good feeling to be in the nest again. I showed my parents all the snaps that I took. They were happy with the “e-Darshan” and I though I had a very good trip to Shirdi. I you wish to see some snaps that I have uploaded then you can click on this link.

About: Foreword.

I wish to know, do you plan writing a blog or it is like a bulb which suddenly lights above your head and then you decide it is time for writing in a post. I have planned some of my blogs over weeks, a few took couple of days to roll and most of my cricket match cover ups are written after seeing some highlights and the way the match meandered to a finish. This is a blog of a very weary, out of thoughts, lazy, sleep and blank blogger. In a shot this blog is about my upcoming blogs. I know what I will be writing on but a shear feeling of being blank and laziness has engulfed me. I have no idea that I would be able to post most of my thoughts. But I hope I will be able to cover these post and they will come out of my empty thought algorithm and see the light of my computer screen.

Cricket: The series is wrapped up 5-1.

The Indians wrapped up the series 5-1. The seven match series was already decided after Indians beat the English four games in a row. It has been a good clinical finish to a series which went well for the Indians. This is the time for jubilations for all the Indian team fans. The youngsters are doing brilliantly by coming to the fore and sharing the burden of the team. The one not so young Rahul Dravid is leading the front from the front. He is an example of everything that is positive about this team, this country and as well as for this sport. He is lucky to have some enormous talent that is ready to fill the boots of likes of Ganguly, Laxman, Srinath, Kumble and now readily accepted Tendulkar. I am not saying that this is the end of them all but I am convinced along with the million others that they are in the last lap of their careers and will hopefully go down as perhaps the best of Indian talent which the world saw and applauded.

The English batting.
VRV gave away more than 10 an over and thanks to him, they happen to settle a score of nearly a 300. The best of English batsmen, all of them contributed to the score. Pietersen and Collingwood top scored with 64 and Jones a well deserved 50. I still think giving Collingwood a majority of strike will only help the English cause of being a better team. I imagine an English team opening with Stauss and Trescothick, followed by Collingwood at three, Vaughan at four, Pietersen at 5. I think a good thinking cricketer at 6 followed by Flintoff and Jones and then their bowlers. Hoggard, Harmisson, Simon Jones and a spinner. I think this will be a balanced English side (provided they are available for selection). The English batting looks confused as to whats to be done in a One Day match. There last four wickets fell for 21 runs. I think they reduced Indians worry when they looked liked trouncing a score in excess of 300. I wonder whether they would be able to play any time of spin in the future as well.

Indian bowling.
VRV Singh was a big flop in this match. This guy works on shear pace. I hope he has a big heart and can learn a few more tricks about consistency required in length and line along with ability to outthink the batsmen. This is where Pathan is so very good. He has such good control over whatever he is doing the result is for all of us to see. Then there is Sree Santh. The gracious break-dancer who makes batsmen dance to his seam bowling. Sree Santh is to Waqar Younis what Pathan is to Wasin Akram. Sree Santh is a touch unlucky though. There are many catches dropped of him. He too has too learn the tricks of changing his pace and add an element of surprise into his armoury. The quality of Harabhjan was sorely missed. He has done well in the series. I know the English don’t play spin well but then one has to place an input in the direction of intended output. Bhajji did so in this series and dumped his detractors.
Powar also did well with both bat and bowl. He has played some “Gilchrist” type innings for his Ranji team Mumbai. He has often managed to save his team from the blushes and then turned the tables on the opposition. He is a good find provided he can match the standards set for him on the field. He lacks Bhajji’s quality but compensates it with his crafty batting.
R.P. Singh’s strength is bowling on one side of the wicket. He does so brilliantly but is often guilty of being too wide and providing room heave the bat. He is a decent fielder. Pathan and Agarkar should be automatic selection with Agarkar being the first change bowler. I wonder what’s Zaheer doing these days. I think he should pump in the iron and iron out his injuries. He is awesome when in full rhythm.

Indian Batting.
Robin Uthappa did well to score a very crafty 86. I saw him playing some strokes on the leg side and I actually mistook him for Dravid. A tired effort while running saw him give away his wicket. I think he should aim for Dravid’s consistency and he might just do fine. Suresh Raina is on song. He compiled a very defiant 50. It was crucial because in One-Days one wicket tends to get you a couple more. He batted along with Yuvraj who is the Indian One-Day player of the season. There is no stopping him. This series bought him his third consecutive man of the series. I wonder if it was ever emulated. Yuvraj can put on wrong foot. He has a role defined for him which is to end the innings whenever India bats. He has done this with all the panache, which for him is his raw power and delicate left hander’s grace.
For once Dhoom Dhoom Dhoni was not missed. I wonder if he would have required in any case.

Extras.
The Indians gave away 9 wides and 8 no-balls the English replies was 8 wides and 4 no balls.

Cricket: Indians make selection goof ups.

The match played today was a fiasco in many ways let me enlist them.

An absurd game plan.

No team can win any cricket match if they don’t have bowlers. The whole selection was absurd. The bowlers should not have been dropped and batsmen should have replaced the batsmen. The Indians were entangled by the improper team selection, which resulted in England gaining few points out of this result. If the opposition is on mat then keep them there, if it is your day then make sure you make it count. The nature game of cricket is as fickle as the land of its origin. No one can bet with surety on the future, what happens if in the next game a resurgent English team beats India in tight match. I bet all the four wins and a serious victory would go down the drain.

Openers spills the beans.

No one can say that Indian top order selection has been performing we are serious short of talent on this opening front. I don’t know, which was the last genuine test opening pair, which lasted for say 40 matches in Test. Then, after a very successful Ganguly and Tendulkar pair split in One Days we seem to struggle even there. I think Robin Utthappa is an opening batsman. Why he being a genuine opener wasn’t he tried? Dhoni played really well to make a 96 taking nothing away for him, but how many times can he open? If he can do it regularly then why isn’t he regularly opening? There is a certain Adam Gilchrist whose been opening successfully for Australia and there are examples of other keepers as well who have opened successfully.

The house crashes without the Wall.

There is not only top order woes for India. There is a very rigid middle order to content as well. There was no spark from the spark plugs. The previous match heroes were silent guns today. Yuvraj, Raina went out to tame dismissal. Venugopal Rao will be kicking himself for not doing enough. I think these guys are in bad luck. They are selected when the big boys are rested and they know they would have to make place for them when the big boys are back. It is sad for guys like Venugopal Rao.

Spot a bowlers contest.

How many matches have V.R.V. Singh, R.P. Singh and Munaf Patel played in all? Whatever may be there count I think English batsmen would have backed themselves to chase down 323. Indian seamers bowled a combine of 20 overs and gave away 118 runs no one even looked look like taking a wicket. There efforts also included 13 extra bowls and equal numbers of runs. There was only Harbhajan who claimed three wickets with his quota of ten overs going for 30 runs.

The English are not complaining.

Why should they? I would be the last person who would be surprised if the English manage to win the last game. Why do I say so? I am not pro English and anti-India. But as an honest cricket fan Indian performance is often lack lustre and thoughtless as it was today. This worries me a trifle. If the good form is just an innings so is the bad form. If the pitch at Indore is anything to do bounce and pace I would favour the English to make it count again and dent the Indian spirit.

The extras, who is counting?

The Indians conceded 27 extras ie 12.05% of runs that’s the English scored along with nearly bowling 7% extra overs. In an endeavour of defending a meagre total these numbers are big. There was a wicket of Ian Bell that went down begging because of a no-ball. The English managed to record a century opening stand. If you keep track of India winning and loosing then keep a track on extra’s which they concede when the loose a match. It will provide a very interesting hint.
The Indians have had a great series of One Day series. I would love to see Indians perform well in tournaments where there are more the two teams then. The Indians under estimated the English and there selection was shocking. There is some dead (Sehwag and Kaif) wood in the team that needs to be replaced.

About: India 1991- 2006 A.D.

A snapshot of today.

I believe most of the active Indian bloggers who happen to be in the range of 18 to 30 grew up seeing the economic enlistment of the country burgeoning Forex Reserves. There has been a very positive and a very definite change in the way India is looked upon. We went from “India? To India!! .” The recent surveys points out the Indians are most optimistic in whole world. This fact is reflected in the GDP growth as well as the stock market. “What if’s” are sulking behind in some dark corner and we are progressing towards a major service/manufacturing/innovation/research base. This era will also be remembered for the IT revolution ganged with increase usage of internet, mobile phones, shopping in malls, awareness about consumer brands, stylized chic fashion trends. It now seems the original "Levi's" and "Reebok's"is much more easier to get then the localized counterparts. It is time to cash in and not check out. Do you ever wondered what bought about this change?

Last decade in the last century.
There were a couple of Prime Ministers (Chandrashekhar and V.P. Singh) who were in the helm of affairs in the beginning of the last decade way back in the last century. The picture was exactly opposite of what it is today. The prince of the dynasty was killed in an election rally, sending shockwaves through this democratic land. The question (“After Jawahar, who?”) that’s was asked thirty years earlier to this incident was repeated again. The only change being “Jawahar” was replaced with “Rajiv”. He was succeed by a senile looking, linguist man who was about to take sanyaas from the world of politics. He could not do so till his last days. He pulled out the country which had just left with enough money to pay for a fortnight of crude oil imports.

Narasimha to rescue.

If the history will be revised there are two Prime Ministers whose leadership took India to where it stands. One is P.V. Narasimha Rao (PVNR) and the other is A.B.Vajpayee (ABV) both very good statesmen. His reign would be characterised by scams buy out and social turmoil. He led a minority government to a complete term. His able guidance bought to the fore an unknown doctor (Dr. Manmohan Singh) who not only diagnosed but also bought the nation economy to the pink of health and now there is no turning back . There was an international report published claiming that India’s G.D.P. will continue to grow by at least 5% for another 50 years.

The scene on PVN’s exit. His exit marked a long reign of political uncertainty. An ABV government for 13 days. Then two very forgettable Prime Ministers (I.K Gujral and H.D. Dewe Gowda ). The general elections turned into almost an annual event. The summers of 96,98,99 were spent tracking the elections on the T.V. God knew what was happening. The political turmoil bought economic downturn and the momentum of progress was gasping for fresh air.

Pause and say Vajpayee.
PVN was followed by ABV. He was a class orator in his time an able statesman and perhaps the most non controversial leaders across party lines with an active public life of 50 years. His foray was external affairs. His reign marked a gradual economic recovery and a very aggressive foreign policy. The slogan “India Shinning” was a precursor of things to come. India turned a corner and things start to pick up momentum again. Clinton paid a visit and other started following suit. The visit not was just another tourist visit. This visit meant business. Then one visit was made by Vajpayee across the western border which result in back stabbing in the name of peace. There was an intrusion which lead to a “skirmish” and the successfull “Operation Vijay”. Many army personnel are now martyr. The “Param Vir Chakra” was given after 13 years. There was an anti incumbency vote and the doctor was again in the helm of affairs.
The last couple of years may not be described atleast for now. This post is a curtain raiser to the post which will follow.

Cricket: The Indians continue to impress.

India romped home to series win with three matches still to be played. The English team is far from the genuinely good One-Day teams that we see. I believe Australia (pretty obviously), New Zealand and South Africa are good fighting One-Day units. Pakistan on there day are very exciting. India has done well. The other team sub-continental Sri Lanka, never found the replacement to the players who left after taking them to World Cup glory in 1996.

Pathan on rock and roll.

The Indian opening bowler has himself into good habit of picking up early wickets. I saw him struggle in the one day series against South Africa when Graeme Smith took him apart. He has since then climbed back out of the hole and looks good on current form. He has shouldered the responsibility with both bat and ball so far so good. There have been criticisms of him for dropping his pace a little. It is not about the pace one bowls but about the place one’s bowls. The McGraths, Ambrose, Pollocks have been great One Day bowlers and these are not tear away fast bowlers.

Pietersen is as good as first three letters in the name.

I think Pietersen is some sort of a dream spell and needs to be shaken up into reality. It is imperative that every English batsman should consider himself to be playing at number 10. There is no back up to follow. Pietersen fell and the match slipped out of England in double quick time. The situations were not the most ideal, but these are opportunities never the less. He has been a bit of let down for me as far as this English team is concerned. This brings another fact into light that many who have done well all over he world have struggled against India in India. A few examples would be that of Lara, Warne, Murali, and Ponting and now I would add Pietersen to this list.

The spinners weave the magic.

The Indian spinners look very very potent in these conditions. They also look potent against the English how tend to struggle against spin. By the way, it is not only spinning that they struggle against. Yuvraj and Sehwag took wickets, which only helped easy the matters. Yuvraj took a great catch of Collingwood, which helped India to take control. Harbhajan then got into the act. He used his guile to set up Pietersen’s wicket. He kept on turning the bowl and fed Pietersen the sweep shot. Then after India opted for third power play, he invited Flintoff to play over the top. Flintoff obliged with not so clean strike for a four. Then Flintoff took a single and Pietersen came to strike, while attempting a premeditated stroke he was fooled by Harbhajan and offered Yuvraj a catch he would not have missed in his sleep. The end of Pietersen. Flintoff tried to hoick Yuvraj and Dravid took a very sharp diving catch to sent Flintoff packing. Geraint Jones played a good hand even though he seemed to be hampered with some injury, before being run out.

India starts well.

Sehwag and Dravid gave India a very good start and practically nullified any chance of English denting the Indian top order. Sehwag then holed out in the deep to a ball, which he could have hit anywhere if he were to be informed. The Pathan came in and managed to control his desire to hit over the top. He collected some runs and managed to build one more solid partnership. He hit Blackwell out of the park and then tried one shot too many was stumped when Blackwell out thought Pathan.

A mini collapse.

Pathan’s exit was followed by that of Dravid who was foxed by Flintoff. Kaif who is finding it difficult to meets ends was sent by packing by a very good catch. He is no short of form and penurious when it comes to luck. I think the team can help him by introducing him on top of the order where he gets time to get into some sort of run making form. I hope he will not be dropped after that. Yuvraj and Raina got their heads down and took India to the doorstep of victory. Yuvraj in this form can commit no crime. His edges find the boundary and all the luck is running for him. He is a brilliant One-Day player and India will certainly do well if Yuvraj gets a decent score.

Captain Dravid.

He is in control, takes educate and calculated gamble. He has players that pull off his plans and the result is for all to see. He explained his reason of delaying the power play. He hung the carrots in front of the opposition and flogged them a series victory. He is a winning as well as performing captain. He has the right foresight for the game. He is leading the front from the front and looks as much as in control as he looks while batting.

There are more challenges ahead.

The latest victories have come against teams that are looking to rebuild. I would like to see them perform on the same intensity levels when battle lines are drawn against better opposition like New Zealand and Australia. However, so far so good.

It has been a very emphatic wins with youngsters pushing the cart on the track to good victories.

3.4.06

Cricket: Indians beach party in Goa.

This was one good match. The batsman sent the fielder for a run chase and bowlers get u the wickets. The task is well done. It won’t be wrong to expect Indians going in for the kill in the next game. This match was firmly controlled by India for most of the duration. They had made 294 and I think batted the English out of the game. The absence of Pietersen only helped matters.

Dravid’s captain prowess.

I think Dravid is a very sedate and a defensive player. He is al the strokes a batsmen can wish to have and plays all type of bowling really well. His captaincy has been full of bold and bright example of leading the front from the front. He shielding, Ganguly in Pakistan and convinced the team management opening against Shoaib Akhtar. I am sure that Ganguly would not have survived Akthar in the form, which he was in when in Pakistan.Dravid is far from a One-Day opener. He has something special though I think he is a good finisher of the one-day game. He has learned the tricks of the trade and now does well in one day too. He came in too bat upfront and send a very positive signal. It shows that he is in control. It also shows people how to set positive example. He compiled a very good 46 and ensured a good platform for the stroke makers to who were to follow.

Yuvraj Singh’s domain.

Yuvraj Singh would roughly translate to the young cub of a lion. One Day is his domain and India is hardly lost any match in which he has crossed a fifty. His batting in One Days (only) is silky, smooth and sublime. He has maintained his class since his debut against Australia in champion’s trophy what now seems ages ago. I think he is very destructive in the last ten over. One Day is his domain (Tests is not the same story) and on the current form, he is BSE Sensex on the cricket field, climbing new peaks every session. He deserved got the man of the match.

Raina presents a strong case.

Who have been the most prolific one-day batsmen? Tendulkar, Inzamam and Ganguly. These three have breached the 10 thousand-run mark. These batsmen started their careers at a very young age. Tendulkar has 39 centuries while Ganguly has 22 (or is it 24?). I think Raina present a strong case of him being promoted to open. He has three vital factors in his favour age, class and runs. All these three are very crucial in any form of the game. He is also a very good fielder.

Multitasking on view.

Yuvraj, Dhoni, Pathan and Raina. These players are specialist, while Dhoni and Pathan are keepers and bowler respectively; Yuvraj and Raina are specialist fielders. Yuvraj can always come in handy against England at least. The also are good batsmen and hit the ball a long way. They are the core of Indian team for me.

Kaif, I support you.

Kaif, I feel sorry for him. I think he should learn something. He made a 91 and then dropped for the following test. There is a lesson for each of the batsmen in the current squad only a 100 in batting will ensure a next chance. I firmly believe his lack of runs have roots somewhere else. I hope he comes well soon. He is a very good player to watch.

Collingwood wasted.

Collingwood is perhaps the best batsman who’s on show from the English side. He is wasted at five down. He should be at number three. He will do well there simply because he has runs against his name all throughout the tour. The inform batsmen should come upfront so should the in form bowlers. He actually deserves to be there.

English woes.

These weather conditions are just not for the English. I think it is more lack of application rather than acclimatizing process. They look very meek against the spin. The lack of quality also peeps from time to time.

In the end.

It is very interesting to note that India is pitching in two off spinners. Harbhajan after his five-wicket hall looks good. Powar has been a tough cookie. He has done well in this series so far. I hope England wins at least one of the next two matches just to keep the interest alive.

About: A passing Sunday.

It was just another passing Sunday. It was about lazy mornings, a good brunch, gossip filled newspaper columns, a good lunch, a fanciful siesta, a few phone calls catching up with people. An evening of social gatherings. Now suddenly close to midnight I realize that it is time to blog.

Passing the tag down the blog exchange.

A very bored Cheesy met me on YM and asked “whats new?” I told her that Sudeep tagged me. She read the tag and asked me to tag her. I did so on her request. I am eager to see what Cheesy does with this tag. A big Hi to Cheesy, Sudeep and Sakshi.
When it’s the summer time.
The song is cute but the rest of the following lines (and the weather is fine) was not meant for us Indians. The weather isn’t “eggxactly” fine when the temperature reaches 40°C. The weather has shot upto to this limit and the worst has yet to come as this is the season of a long summer is gradually unfolding.

Fruit full summers.

The watermelon stalls are increasing day by day. I have yet to taste some of them. But a thirst wrenching summer always come with thirst-quenching fruits. I have couple of trees that are now fully loaded with ripe mangoes, which I preferably call “carries” I managed to pluck some of those real ripe and real tangy one and Mom chopped them for salad. The tangy taste tickles my tongue whenever I think of them. Then there was a big bush of chickoos. I never imagined myself picking fruits was so easy. I remember planning to attack the tree with loaded with jamuns and carries. I love them.

Cricket over view.

Kaif and Yuvraj, what more do I say. I think one of the openers should be dropped. It does not matter which one we drop, both are awful at this moment of time. I say open with Raina. Kaif at three, Dravid at four and Yuvraj at five. Then there will be a luxury of picking some other batsmen. The English batting looks very vulnerable to a sharp Indian spin attack. There is one thing sure about the schedule of this tour. The schedule manager did not pay much attention to the calendar. Whats the point of not keeping a single ODI on a weekend is puzzling.
The most puzzling term in the game of cricket is the acronym I.C.C. There are many reasons why it is still an enigma. I believe they have no control over any cricket board. I wonder if they keep a tab on any fact of the type of cricket that a team plays. England keep on playing Test. Their One-Day performances are not so good. England, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe are the only teams, which have not won any major ICC tournaments. I don’t think they look like anyways.

A new summers light.

The days a bit of laziness and bewilderment are over. I have joined in a bank. I am real excited on joining this one. Let’s see how things meander.
