Blog: Weekday or Weekend?

I was not feeling all that great about coming to office on Sunday.I am no work-o-holic but it was just part of the job that someone in our group has to put in a Sunday once a month. I was not grumbling but just a touch sombre over the fact that I had to get up "early" (say 8:30 A.M.) on a Sunday morning. There was some more dismay when I realized that the tap had run dry. Anyways after a wait of 40 minutes I had completed all the formalities which had to be done before anyone leaves for office.

Microsoft Office and office.

As it was a Sunday I was there along with a colleague who prefers to be quiet and smiles oddly at some of my quick comments. I managed to hook on some sites, caught up with the world. Rediff my favourite site came in handy.I Google my way over some forced doubts over some details in the document section that I am assigned to. Since at one point I was the only one in the office for whom the Printer awaited commands for I made sure all the 86 pages were printed seggregated and the Databse was updated along with filing the documents wherever they were supposed to be.

Home Sweet Home.

After trugging on the ST bus I managed to "land" near Surat Station. An auto-rickshaw was "Google" and managing two Auots I was home.Father was a touch busy regarding matters in the office which is nearby, Mom made some really hot Parathas, (God I love those.) I was half in slumber and half awake and at this point I don't remeber what I saw on the telly. I knew a Formula One race would be underway. I though "Why not?"

I wanted to be Philipe.

Massa was head of the pack and maintained his lead all thoughout the race. He managed to put his foot to the last second and secure his first win. It was such fun seeing Philipe being immeresed by Alonso and Schumi. I just wish to be in his shoes and wanted to know what it feels like when ALonso and Schumi dip you in Champagne. It was a wonderful race for him as he ably defended his good work from Alonso and Schumi all the way to chequered flag.

Schumi Screwed.

I don't why the decision to calling in both the Ferraris together was ever made? Schumi followed Philipe into the pit and was to made wait percious 8 seconds and Alonso managed to get ahead of him. WHat if Schumi came in couple of laps later gaining enough time on Alonso. It would have made Ferrari one-two on the podium and would have given Alonso a few things to think about the next few races. But ...

Waking up late on Monday Morning.

On Monday morning blues in this week. Monday was about getting up late having two really large glasses of cold coffee with some delightful breakfast. I manged to read, watch some more Television and thing about a few things of past and few things for future. The evening came and I wemt out to the nearest "Mongins Bakery". I had the pleasure of having a big chocolate pastry named "Swiss Miss" and wasn't it yummy? I love that.

The American Open.

There would be many favourites and among all the list of favourites and underdogs there will be an eventual winner. I am just praying that Andre Aggassi and Martina Hingis do well. Aggassi has always been about panache and aging into twilight. Martina Hingis represents an always eager spirit of competition. I hope she can come up with some scintilatting base line tennis once trademark of the now legendary Steffi Graf.

Hrishi Da no more.

One more master passed awaay following the sad demise of Bimillah khan. Hrishikesh Mukherjee churned out some of the most soul searching and some of the cult classic Hindi comedy movies. These were family orinted movies for the entire family. The remain eternal. One of those movies was Anand. It was such a wonderfully done movie. The climax is the most touching and soul stirring once and still evokes goose bumps whenever I see that movie. I saw it for few minutes last night but it was getting late and I had to wake up early.

Blog: This week in review.

No TV (Tabloid) Channel or for that matter the Print Media would have hated this week coz there for lot of material for churning out rumours, gossip, hoax and off cousre some NEWS. This was the week when I logged on to Orkut first time in Three weeks and completed the formalities of adding on some more friends and checking my G Mail account only to find a few jokes some beautiful snaps and spam. I did forward the clip which I think I must upload in the next few days. All those of have managed to have a look just see it to believe it.

An obituary to a Maestro.

This week saw the sad demise of Ustad Bismillah Khan. He was an exponent of Shehnai. The grand old man saw some horrorful days mainly due to the neglect of his kin. It is a sad story. He was reluctant to go to west but he was successful as any musician and not as flashy as some of his other exclaimed peers.
He will be most remembered for playing Shehnai on 15 August, 1947 when Indians won their Independence.

Rumors, hoax and scares.

This week saw things happening. The sea water near a revered Dargaah became sweet the stautues in temples started drinking Milk again, Mother Mary was crying a church. I said to myself wow. People thronged to see the miracle but I laughed with no intention of hurting anyones sentiment. I just wanted to reiterate that religious explanation start from the point scientific wisdom cannot think. I have a firm belief that religion do restrict man's view. It gives him the power to think beyond what contemporary.
Then there were bomb hoaxes in predominantly American flights. "There is a saying that one rotten apple ruins the whole basket". I dont know for how long will the world especially the developing and the under developed world will have to bear the brunt of "war against Terrorism". The world most powerful democracy is the biggest obstacle to world peace.
I atlast some some coverage on the havoc of floods on Surat. It was worst then what was reported by Agnecies who also report NEWS, having said that the relief work is under way courtesy the government and the innumerous volunteer groups. The cleaning operation is in full swing. There are some areas which have not been accessed but things are about to get only better.
I think I will update the second part of Floods on Surat in a few coming days.

Pakistan Cricket Team commit suicide.

It may have been the matter of National pride but Pakisatni team, missed the opportunity of beg win and restore some pride. The ball was changed and they still played, they seem to hold all the cards and would have had buried all dismay of whatever happened and gave a crushing blow on England and also Darrel Hair. What was the point of not coming back to the ground again after tea.If somebody decieves me once shame on him and if someone decieves me twice shame on me. There is no doubt that ICC is not the most fair and potent sports governing body. They can still do so as the One Days are still to start.England is not the best One Day team so it is less of a challenge.
Pakistani's have been guilty of tampering with the ball. The Pakistani bowlers from Imran and Waqar have been guilt and reprimanded at various time. Darell hair has no proff though, atleast this time TV crew did not catch it. It is a sad episode in cricketing history but Inzamam would have done better had he taken the option of coming out again bowling England out at the earliest and then guide Pakistan to a thumping victory. I am sure all new of ball tempering then would have swept under the carpet and there would have been one less cricketing controversy.

Looks whos blogging?
Invincible is back after a long break. I would like to welcome him back and hope the next break wont be as long as this one. :)

Cricket: A delayed series.

India vs Sri Lanka
A false start.

The rain is not as much responsible for the dismay of cricket fans as the organizers. The Indian sub continent comes under Monsoon type of climate.Ther is not much happening apart from rains and subsquent floods. This is no secret and everybody who lives in the sub-continet knows this fact. It would not be a mystery even to a student of sixth class. I question the wisdom of organizing a series at this time of the year. It was stupid. I am not sure till date if we could witness even a single match lasting one day and 100 overs.
It was sad to see crores worth of money going down the drain. It was inevitable.

England vs Pakistan.
I was amazed from the very start of the series. English players hit tons of tonnes and their spinners got fifers. The Pakistan batsmen apart from Yosuf looked at see and their fast bowlers had checked into nearest hospital nursing injuries. Pakistan have always been know for the quality fast bowlers. They were missing in England this time though. Their absence meant the English batsmen to be amaong runs. The Likes of Cooks and Colingwood cemented their place. Ian bell who has diffculty taking stance while batting hit centuries. Danish Kaneria looked ost comfotable pulling hair out of his head. The poor fielding of Pakistanis is a trademark of their team along with their fast bowling.Sami was a lone warrior with limited support at the other end.

Along came Asif.

This was the series for Pakistani till a Mohd. Asif forced his way. He looked awesome against India when they toured Pakistan earlier in this year. He seemed to e a brilliant line and length bowler who could bowl some hostile stuff and amazing speeds. He spear headed the attack and Pakistan drubbed in English and the English skittled out for 173. I believe all the hype of brilliant performances would be buried now.

Pakistan will hopefully win.
I know it is too early to take a call as to who will win but Pakistan seem to be in control at 370 for 3 as of now. I believe Inzamam has all the time in the world and will hopefully smack the life out of English bowling. Harmisson was already looking like an ordinary up and down medium pacer. Monty needs to tighten up.
If Pakistani bowling was as good as it was in first innings then Pakistan will win in all probabilty.

Apart from cricket.
I have got an alias for myself know. You may call me "The Light-House".

About: Surat in Floods.

Frist things first, Greeting to everyone celebrating India's Independece Day.
If there is no good match on Cricket in a few days from now, the post on my blogs would be would try to paint the details of horror which the floods bought to the city of Surat. These posts are likely to be somber and pensive. I thought writing this is important coz I am not in a mood to dampen someone's spirit.

Answering a few Questions.
I will try and answer each of the following question in the next part so as to share the misery and dismay of the flood situation here. These questions are as follows:-
  1. What?
  2. Where?
  3. When?
  4. Who?
  5. Why?
  6. How?

1. What?

Surat and south of Gujrat were witnessing heavy rainfalls in the fast three weeks. The rain seem to be wary from the ridicule to the bizzare. It use to get so dark in the day that sometimes lunch seemed like evening breakfast (supper). There were rains in other parts of the country as well namely Vidarbha and Andhra. I dont have any details of what happened in those parts I am giving an eyewintess accounts to a flooded river and the effects there after.

2. Where?
The area in and around Surat. the area's which were badly hit were areas of "Adajan"
and "Rander" along with the Industrail Zone of "Hazira". The oackage released by the government might be short even for cleaning the silt and the mud bought in by the over flowing river. The river Tapi surrounds the city of Surat before emptying itself in Arabian Sea.

3. When?
It all started on 6 of August heavy downpour saw people crying to heavens for mercy little did they know what was to unfold. The night going into 7 saw the tempo of rains ever increasing. The dates 8 and 9 were conming up next on the calendar.

To be continued ...

About: Floods in Surat

I wish I could post some snaps of the over flooded Tapi river on which the Diamond City of Surat is located. I would like to add something more about the city which may interest the ladies at least. India polishes 90% of all the diamonds in the world. The city of surat nearly contributes to 90% of these, in short out of every 5 diamonds in the the world 4 are polished in Surat. The following snap were clicked by colleague and you might just note the "subtle" changes. The rage in the current and the volume of the river is beyond imagination of any one who hasn't seen it yet. It is ferociuos, so much so that the water has covered three bridges which intraconnect suburbs of Surat towards places where bus-stand and station are located.
A few months back.

Yesterday.

I am away from the city of Surat while my folks are "safe" and sound in the surrounds of compounds of the colony of the company my father works for. The term safe means the situation is under control and there is no need to press the panic button but the water is gushing in and the worst is feared to come yet so situation may get to no ones surprise. The floods have definetly thrown the city of out of gear and there can't be much damage analysis untill the waters recede. the situations is worst because of water being dispersed from a dam called Ukai which is Tapi's upstream. The rains have eased considerably since last 12 hours.

I am sitting pretty at my office and there are no concern around what-so-ever. I will try and keep this posted. Please don't spread any panic buttons.
